Dress Up Downtown Peabody With Homemade Scarecrows

If you made a scarecrow last weekend at Brooksby Farm and still have it, bring your straw man downtown to enter into the Peabody Downtown Association's Scarecrow Contest.

You can also make another scarecrow at the farm Saturday or Sunday from noon - 3 p.m. You bring the clothes for the stuffing, the farm provides the straw.

Also bring a canned good with you to donate to Haven from Hunger (tuna fish, peanut butter, spaghetti or sauce). You can also pick your own pumpkin and go for a hayride.

Now, back to the contest. Entries will be accepted at the Main Branch of the Peabody Institute Library on Saturday from 9-11 a.m. Judging is scheduled for noon.

The winners will get prizes, but all the entries will be prominently displayed on light poles downtown for three weeks.

There are several guidelines for any entries, such as no moving parts or electronics and scarecrows have to be between 5 and 7 feet tall. You can find more details here.
