Volunteers Cover Cedar Grove in Flags for Memorial Day

Veterans gathered at the South Peabody cemetery Friday morning to place flags at the graves of veterans buried there.

If you stopped by Cedar Grove Cemetery Friday morning, you would have seen a group of Peabody veterans out in the drizzle armed with American flags to honor their fellow soldiers who have already passed on.

The local veterans come out each year to volunteer and help prepare the gravesites for Memorial Day. On Monday, a special service will be conducted yet again at the South Peabody cemetery before the annual parade steps off to City Hall and another service with city officials and local dignitaries.

City Veterans Agent Chris Tighe says there are about 2,300 veterans buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
