Peabody West Wins; Now 7 for 8 in Titles

The Peabody West Williamsport all-stars are back in sectional play this week.

The Peabody West Williamsport All-Stars clinched another district championship on Thursday.

It was all tied up at three until Josh Cerretani knocked one out of the park for a three-run homer in the top of the seventh and then Dan Marshall retired the remaining Lynnfield batters in the next half.

Peabody West now moves on to the sectional tournament this week to play District 15 champs Beverly on Wednesday (7:45 p.m.), Weston for District 13 on Thursday (7:45 p.m.) in Round 2 and then District 14 champions North Andover East on Friday (5:30 p.m.).

All games will be at Wyoma in Lynn. The tournament format is still double elimination. You can read more about the Lynnfield win for Peabody West in the Salem News here.

The 10- to 11-year-old all-stars likewise won their District 16 title as well and have a similar lineup this week for sectionals -- Beverly on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.), Woburn on Thursday (5:30 p.m.) and Andover on Friday (5:30 p.m.). All games will be played in Swampscott.

Peabody West softball all-stars are also pounding through the tournament. The majors team won its sectional but lost in Game 3 of the state championship to Charlton on Sunday.

The juniors play Game 3 of their sectionals with Woburn Tuesday (5:30 p.m.) at Peabody and the seniors await the start of the state tournament on July 20.
