Peabody Sports Greats Thanks to Title IX

The Tanner City has seen a lion's share of talented high school athletes and coaches over the past 40 years.

It was 40 years ago this year that females got equal opportunity to play in competitive high school sports.

In honor of that landmark date, and because the Tanner City has seen many female stars rise in the past four decades -- more so than many other communities, the Salem News recently profiled a handful of Peabody women who have left their own lasting legacies.

The women are: Lorraine Benoit (1970s), Jane Heil (1980s), Jennifer Webster (1990s), Samantha Arsenault (2000s) and Hayley Dowd (2010s).
