Gigante Named New Housemaster at Higgins School

Veteran teacher is the new sixth grade housemaster at the middle school.

When the new sixth-graders arrive at Higgins Middle School in September, they'll have Deborah Gigante to help them adjust to the middle school experience.

Gigante, a veteran teacher, was recently promoted to the open housemaster job to replace Tracy Smith, who is the new principal at the Carroll School.

Higgins Principal Todd Bucey says Gigante has worked in the education field for more than 20 years and has taught social studies at the Higgins since 2006.

She's also served as the advisor for both the student peer mentoring program at the Higgins and the school's chapter of the National Junior Honor Society.

Bucey describes Gigante as "an excellent communicator with a passion for seeing every child succeed."

She holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Salem State.

The middle school has a total of four housemasters -- one per grade and an at-large position. There is no assistant principal.
