Four Students Receive Scholarships From Luso American Credit Union

Luso American Credit Union awarded the winners of its 6th Annual Scholarship Program on June 24 at its branch on 37 Tremont Street in Peabody. Scholarship Committee Chairman, Alfonso Barcamonte and Chairman of the Board, Sergio Costa announced that the credit union awarded a total of $4,000 to four students, each will receive $1,000.

The recipients are:

• Matthew Connelly, Lynnfield High School – attending University of South Carolina
• Erico Cordeiro, Peabody Veterans Memorial High School – attending Salem State University
• Yaritza Sanchez, Salem High School – attending North Shore Community College
• Chelsea Rowe, Peabody Veterans Memorial High School – attending Salem State University

Luso American Credit Union Manager Ivone Silva said, “Luso American Credit Union is proud to support our student members’ dedication to learning. It is always our pleasure to assist these worthy students through our undergraduate Scholarship Program as they pursue a college education.”

Applicants were required to be graduating high school seniors, graduates of high school, or current college students enrolling in an undergraduate or graduate course of study during the 2013-2014 school year from an accredited institution of higher education or pursuing post-secondary vocational/technical certification in a vocational institution. Applicants were also required to be current members of Luso American Credit Union with their own accounts. Winners were chosen after submitting applications including transcripts, proof of college acceptance, letters of recommendation and information about extracurricular activities or community involvement.
