What Are the Four Ballot Questions for Massachusetts in the Fall?

Casinos, expanded bottle bill, gas tax and sick time for workers will be on the November ballot.

Massachusetts voters will not only select a new governor in November. They will also vote on four ballot questions.

The most hotly contested question that will likely lead to plenty of advertising is Question 3, which would repeal the state’s casino law.

Here are the four questions:

  • Question 1 will ask whether voters want to eliminate a law that ties the state’s gas tax to inflation.
  • Question 2 would expand the state’s bottle bill to include a 5-cent deposit on additional bottled drinks, including water and sports drinks.
  • Question 3 will ask whether voters want to repeal the casino law.
  • Question 4 would mandate 40 hours of paid sick time for Massachusetts workers.

 

In announcing the ballot question placement, Secretary of State William F. Galvin said the ballot questions will likely increase voter turnout because the topics are so diverse. Casinos remain a hot topic, conservatives are interested in repealing the gas tax law, labor leaders are backing the sick time question and liberals want the bottle bill expanded.
