Main Street on Track for July Finish

Most of the work on Main Street should be completed by the end of the week, including reducing the lanes down to two.

Before the week is out, Main Street should be down to just two lanes. The overhaul of the half-mile stretch of road is a project seven years in the making.

City planner Blair Haney said the new line striping is scheduled for Thursday, and by Monday, only a punch list of items should be left.

Construction crews are currently finishing installation of two concrete medians that will aid safe passage of pedestrians across the street in two spots -- in front of the library and near Walgreens.

A center turning lane will be marked out on Main Street between Washington and Howley streets.

The curbing for the medians was installed this past Monday, the concrete was poured on Tuesday, brick pavers are due to be placed Wednesday, striping on Thursday and then new signs placed on Friday, said Haney.

The new sidewalks and crosswalks, as well as new trees, were finished earlier this spring. Fresh asphalt was rolled last month.

City officials said the project has been slightly off-track in recent weeks due to all the rain.

The contractor on the project is A.R. Belli out of Newtonville.
