City Seeks to Return Over $60K in Unclaimed Cash

Property is often in the form of checks for small refunds that the recipients haven't claimed.

Does the city owe you any money?

Mayor Ted Bettencourt recently released a list of hundreds of individuals and businesses who may be entitled to abandoned property held in the city’s treasury. In total, there's more than $60,000 in unclaimed cash.

The deadline to file a claim is Dec. 30, and you can find the form to do so on the city's website and attached here as a .pdf file.

“I recommend that all Peabody residents and business owners check the Unclaimed Property list at the city’s website,” Bettencourt says. “I am committed to returning these funds to their rightful owners and we have streamlined the process to make it as simple and convenient as possible.”

Anyone whose name is on the list can obtain information about the value of the property from the treasurer's office at 978-538-5760. Forms must be returned to the treasurer's office.

Each claim form must include a valid signature and valid mailing address in order to be processed. Allow up to eight weeks for checks to be processed.
