Woman Jumps on Car to Prevent Driver From Fleeing Crash Scene

The driver still attempted to flee the scene -- with the woman atop the car -- and eventually stopped before going too far from the Route 1 mobile home park.

Police say a woman jumped on the hood of a car to prevent it from fleeing the scene of an accident at a Route 1 mobile home park.

Police received a call shortly after 6 p.m. that a car hit a fence at Mobile Estates, which is located at 286 Newbury St.

According to a police log entry, a female then jumped on the hood of the car to stop the vehicle as it attempted to leave the scene. But it didn't work. A witness told police the vehicle broke free of the fence and took off toward the park exit with the woman still on the hood.

The witness said the vehicle did stop, however, in the middle of the park, but the woman refused to get down. There were two adults and two children inside the car.

Police then arrested Katie E. Burke, 31, of 286 Newbury St. #114, Peabody, on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and negligent operation of a vehicle.

An officer also filed child endangerment charges.
