Who Needs Night Lights With a Flaming Basketball?

These guys brought a little fire of their own to the game.

Police received a call just after 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday reporting that some kids lit the basketball nets on fire at Macarthur Park. Officers responded to the scene and said the suspects were three white males wearing white shirts and black shorts.

Police said they had actually set the basketball on fire first and the nets caught fire as the trio continued shooting hoops.

So who do you call when the next-door fowl just gets too much to bear? Not the Animal Control Officer, as one Harris Street woman learned.

The ACO received a message Wednesday afternoon around 12:30 p.m. from a Harris Street resident complaining about the odor coming from the neighbor's chickens. The ACO spoke with the city's Health Department and learned the woman had already filed a complaint there.

The Board of Health regulates permits for chickens and other birds in Peabody.

The ACO said she left a return message with the complainant, informing her the Health Department had jurisdiction over such complaints and would investigate on its own.

Tuesday, June 5

• 3:04 p.m. A caller reported her mother was a victim of a telephone scam. The woman was scammed out of $1,800 cash by a person claiming to be her grandnephew.
• 5:30 p.m. A caller reported his car was entered whie he was inside the . A laptop computer, laser printer and computer case were stolen.
• 5:42 p.m. A caller on Washington Street reported his girlriend was threatening to harm him.
• 7:47 p.m. An employee at the reported a man walked off with a gift card without paying. Police spoke to the man, who was from Saugus, and he said he thought he paid at a different location. He returned the card.
• 8 p.m. A caller on Keyes Drive reported her car window was broken earlier in the day.
• 9:58 pm. A homeowner on Ralph Road reported he was drinking with a friend when that man became out of control. He said he pushed the friend out of the house and was now holding a baseball bat inside the house. He was transported to his residence for the night.

Wednesday, June 6

• 6:20 a.m. Police received a report of a car with a gutted radio outside Sports Medicine North on Orthopedic Drive. Police said nothing was stolen and they would try to locate the owner.
• 8:21 a.m. Angelo A. Macaya, 27, of 2 Union St., Lynn, was arrested, following a report of vandalism by a Sanborn Street resident. A female caller reported a male punctured all four of her car tires with a knife and then fled on foot toward Oak Street and might have been headed to Salem. Macaya charged on an outstanding warrant from Lynn District Court, malicious destruction of property over $250 and making threats to commit a crime.
• 10:21 a.m. A 70-year-old resident reported an antique wedding band was stolen from his car while he was at the on Central Street the day before.
• 12:06 p.m. A clerk at the on Main Street reported two females appeared to be under the influence. They left the area in a silver Honda. The vehicle was seen taking a left onto Main Street. Police checked the area but were unable to find the car.
• 2:13 p.m. A caller on Lowell Street reported her three-year-old, gray and white, male cat named Angel has been missing for three weeks. Angel was last seen in the vicinity of Lowell Street and the area. He was not wearing a collar and is not microchipped.
• 2:56 p.m. Police received a report of a female not feeling well at an Ellsworth Road home. Police said the situation was due to leaking natural gas possibly from the stove. The female and four children were all evacuated from the home by the Fire Department and NStar was notified. The female was transported by ambulance to Beverly Hospital for treatment. Police said the children's parents were notified and the youths were taken home after being evaluated by EMTs. Police said the knob on the stove may have been turned on accidentally.
• 6:18 p.m. A caller on Arnold Avenue reported people with a possible BB gun were shooting cans. Police said the residents had stopped before officers arrived, but advised the individuals against repeating such behavior.
• 6:33 p.m. A caller on Catherine Drive reported her iPad was stolen three weeks ago and she has a suspect.
• 7:03 p.m. Detectives confiscated a small amount of marijuana from a car after making a motor vehicle stop outside the .
• 7:22 p.m. David G. LaFrance, 33, of 38 Highland St., New Bedford, was arrested, following a report of fraudulent activities at the Eastern Bank inside . He was charged with uttering a false check, forgery of a check, identity fraud and possession of a counterfeit RMV document.
• 9:10 p.m. William Fitzmaurice, 59, of 333 Edgemere Rd., Lynnfield, was arrested, following a motor vehicle stop at the corner of Lowell and Bourbon streets. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and a red light violation.
• 9:24 p.m. A caller reported hitting a coyote with a car on Route 114 near the Danvers line. Danvers police were notified.

Thursday, June 7

• 3:26 a.m. Peabody officers responded to assist Salem police with a person who was running from them. The suspect was a male wearing jeans and a gray sweatshirt. Police checked the area of Walnut Street, but could not locate the person.
• 6:13 a.m. An owner at the reported the wooden swing outside the restaurant was damaged sometime overnight.
• 7:49 a.m. The owner of the on Washington Street reported someone stole a bush from outside the store overnight. The thief was caught on a surveillance camera.
• 9:28 a.m. Danvers police reported a pedestrian accident on Sylvan Street near . A male pedestrian walked into the side of a motor vehicle. The man was evaluated by EMTs at the scene.
• 11:47 a.m. The principal at the reported a sick or injured coyote or fox was in the back lot of the school property. The anima took off running onto Hamilton Road before police arrived. The principal said she would keep the children inside today for recess.
• 12:17 p.m. A Lynn man reported someone cashed a check on his account at .
• 1:27 p.m. Police received a report of a loose dog in the vicinity of again. The Animal Control Officer was unable to catch the dog. The ACO said she would cite the dog’s owner.
