Caller Says Skunk Stuck in Drain Pipe and Children Abusing Animal

The following information was provided by the Peabody Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following excerpts are from reports in the Peabody Police Department press log from Aug. 1-3.

Thursday, Aug. 1

  • 2:23 p.m. A Jacobs Street resident reported someone opened two credit cards under her name without permission.
  • 4:51 p.m. Police received a report of a female that might be having a seizure at a Main Street apartment. Atlantic Ambulance then arrived to the scene and said there was a fight in progress. A female was transported to Salem Hospital by ambulance.
  • 5:47 p.m. A Forest Street resident reported a stolen red Honda Elite valued at $800.
  • 6:19 p.m.  A Peabody woman reported her 17-1/2-year-old daughter moved to her grandmother's home in Beverly and was having relations with a 36-year-old man in the neighborhood. The mother said she just wanted it noted she wasn't in agreement with the relationship between her daughter and the older man although she knew there was nothing illegal about the relationship.
  • 6:42 p.m. A caller reported there was a skunk stuck in a drain pipe on Veterans Memorial Drive and children were abusing the animal. The animal control officer was able to free the animal.
  • 9:04 p.m. A caller reported a vehicle struck and killed a dog on Lake Street and then fled the area to Route 1. Police said there was no description of the vehicle.
  • 9:58 p.m. A caller at Kevin McGrath Plumbing & Heating on Clark Road reported someone painted words on the side windows of his van and windshield.

Friday, Aug. 2

  • 4:51 a.m.  A caller on Lenox Road reported seeing a white male wearing dark clothes and checking out the cars in the neighborhood. Police said the person fled into the cemetery and they were unable to find him. The initial caller said the suspect tried the doors of different cars and if they didn't open, he moved on to the next one. Police said nothing appear to be stolen at the time.
  • 6:13 a.m. A caller reported getting two flat tires after driving through the road construction on Lowell Street.
  • 10:34 a.m. Police responded to Indy Auto Parts on Route 1 on a report of drug violations. Officers said there were two vehicles in the parking lot and a female was then transported to Lahey Clinic by ambulance. Randall A. Andino, 45, of Revere, was arrested on a charge of conspiracy to violate drug laws.
  • 4:27 p.m. An employee at SpringHill Suites reported someone stole three metal vent covers from the rear parking lot of the hotel.
  • 6:31 p.m. A 40-year-old Andover woman was issued a citation for making an illegal U-turn in front of Chandler's Ice Cream on Route 114.
  • 6:47 p.m. Steven G. Nassor, 53, of 33 Upham St. #2, Salem, was arrested after an officer spotted his car outside an apartment on Hancock Street. Police said he was wanted on a warrant out of Salem for a domestic incident.
  • 8:50 p.m. A caller reported a past car break-in outside the Sylvan Street Grille. An officer said the driver's side rear window was broken and a suitcase containing clothing was stolen.
  • 9:26 p.m. A caller reported a past car break-in outside Bertucci's on Route 1. Police said a window was smashed and a bag that didn't contain anything of value was taken.
  • 9:59 p.m. A caller reported there was an erratic operator in the area of Warren and Endicott streets. The vehicle was swerving side-to-side, unable to maintain speed, and driving on the wrong side of the road. The caller said the turned onto Tanners Court.
  • 10:03 p.m. A guest at the SpringHill Suites reported some items were missing from his room -- believed they were stolen.
  • 10:29 p.m. A caller on Wildwood Drive reported some kids threw eggs and chocolate sauce on his deck.

Saturday, Aug. 3

  • 12:12 a.m. A caller reported a past assault at Capone's.
  • 1:28 a.m. Report of a water main break in front of the 7-Eleven on Lowell Street. DPS was notified.
  • 1:33 a.m. A 21-year-old Berwick, Maine man was issued a court summons for leaving the scene of a car accident with property damage at Castle Circle. Police said the accident occurred in the driveway of a home.
  • 3:15 a.m. Salem police reported two youths were stabbing car tires in the vicinity of the Peabody/Salem line.
  • 3:37 a.m. Salem police located a car with slashed tires at the corner of Oakland and Proctor streets.
  • 4:01 a.m. An officer located another vehicle with damaged tires at the corner of Proctor and Margin streets. Police said that car was actually in Salem.
  • 8:48 a.m. A caller on Ruth Avenue reported his 2011 Harley Road Glide was stolen overnight.
  • 2:39 p.m. Kayce Toppin, 20, of Boston, was arrested, following a report of a shoplifter at the Hollister store at the Northshore Mall. Toppin was charged with trespassing and two counts of shoplifting by concealing merchandise. A green 2000 Ford was also towed from the scene for having a suspended registration.
  • 3:57 p.m. A clerk at Best Gas on Route 1 reported a man in a gray BMW drove off after his credit card was declined for $50 in gas.
  • 4:06 p.m. A catalytic converter was stolen off a pickup truck at the Marriott Hotel.
  • 8:20 p.m. A resident at the Chateau Royal Condominium on Northshore Road reported a past break-in to one of the units, but nothing appeared to be taken.
  • 10:55 p.m. Police responded to a break-in at Greg's Deli on First Avenue. The glass was broken in the dining room area. Police said the suspect was described as a heavyset white male wearing a baseball cap, white shirt and jean shorts.
  • 11:18 p.m. The operator of a motorcycle was taken to Mass. General Hospital in Boston after an accident on Lowell Street near Su Chang's.
