Peabody Woman Faces Charges in Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

The victim was seriously injured and a 33-year-old Peabody woman is now charged with leaving the scene of the accident and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (her SUV).

A 33-year-old Peabody woman is facing charges after leaving the scene of a car accident with a pedestrian Friday afternoon on Central Street.

The woman is being charged with leaving the scene of a car accident with personal injuries and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (a motor vehicle). Initial scanner reports Friday indicated she was taken into custody, but according to a press log entry, the woman was just issued a court summons on the above charges.

A female pedestrian, identified as a 48-year-old resident, was initially taken to Lahey Clinic, but then transferred by ambulance to Mass. General Hospital in Boston. She reportedly had serious injuries.

According to police, the accident occurred at the corner of Central Street and Wilson Terrace at 5:33 p.m. Police had received multiple calls at that time of a hit-and-run and a possible case of road rage.

The suspect vehicle -- a black Cadillac Escalade -- fled the scene toward Pulaski Street. Police eventually located the SUV and the driver in the parking lot of the Roadhouse Pub on Pulaski.
