Peabody Man Charged in Armed Robbery

A Peabody man accused of taking part in an armed robbery at a convenience store in Everett last month during which the store clerk was shot twice was arrested on Humphrey Street in Swampscott Sunday evening. 

At approximately 6 p.m., Gary A. Green, 52, of 63 Veterans Memorial Drive, Peabody, was arrested on charges of assault to rob a person more than 65 years old, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (gun), and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.  

According to a release issued Sunday, Swampscott police received an anonymous tip that Green was hiding out in an apartment at 246 Humphrey St.

Following the tip, Swampscott police Lt. Gary Lord notified members of the Everett Police Department and, because of the violent nature of the robbery, the North Metro SWAT team made up of Revere and Everett officers was called in to make the entry into the apartment.

At approximately 6 p.m., the SWAT team entered the apartment and arrested Green without incident. 

At 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 17, two men reportedly robbed the Neighborhood Convenience Store on Main Street in Everett and shot the store clerk in the stomach and back before fleeing the scene, according to CBS Boston.

A woman believed to be Green's girlfriend was in the apartment with him at the time of his arrest, but was not arrested by police. 

Green was reportedly transported to Swampscott Police Department for booking and was then turned over to Everett police. 

Parts of Humphrey and Blaney streets in Swampscott were shut down during the SWAT team's entrance. No injuries were reported.
