Child Demonstrates for Younger Cousin How to Dial 911

The following information was provided by the Peabody Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following excerpts are from reports in the Peabody Police Department press log from Jan. 26-27.

Sunday, Jan. 26

  • 12:01 p.m. Jennifer M. Ahearn, 40, of Somerville, was arrested following a report of a detained shoplifter at The North Face store in the Northshore Mall. She was charged with three counts of receiving stolen property under $250 (subsequent offense) and one count of shoplifting by asportation (second offense).
  • 12:45 p.m. Edward M. Hurley, 38, of Stoneham, was arrested following a report of a shoplifter at JC Penney who fled outside the store toward Lahey Medical Center. He was charged with shoplifting by concealing merchandise, disorderly conduct and trespassing.
  • 2:15 p.m. A child was transported to North Shore Children's Hospital from the McVann-O'Keefe Skating Rink with a knee injury.
  • 2:35 p.m. A caller at Main Street Laundry reported someone entered his vehicle and stole his iPhone 5 off the passenger seat.
  • 3:31 p.m. A caller reported a Dalmatian ran into the side of the car on Central Street and then ran off.
  • 4:03 p.m. A caller reported a theft of a purse in the parking lot outside JC Penney. The suspects were described as two teenaged males wearing hoods, jackets and jeans. Police checked the area, but didn't find them. The victim was given a ride home.
  • 7:21 p.m. A Lynn Street resident reported a male stole a gaming console and then sold it at the Game Stop at the Northshore Mall.
  • 11:52 p.m. Report of an overdose at a Swampscott Avenue apartment. A male was taken to Salem Hospital by ambulance and police confiscated drug materials from the scene.

Monday, Jan. 27

  • 2:11 a.m. An officer reported some small boulders were in the roadway at the intersection of Washington and Foster streets. The officer placed them in the traffic island and notified DPS.
  • 8 a.m. Report of a single-car accident on Hotel Road with possible injuries. State police responded and handled the scene.
  • 8:20 a.m. A caller dialed 911 then hung up. Police said it was apparently a child showing his younger cousin how to dial 911.
  • 8:23 a.m. A caller at Abbey Fence Company on Willard Street reported a past theft of a light bar worth $500. It was taken off a vehicle.
  • 9:27 a.m. A Bradford Road resident reported his two 14-week-old pit bull puppies went missing while he was on vacation. He suspected they were stolen.
