Here's what you need to know to get your weekend started.

Today is Friday, Oct. 5. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.

  1. The city will be paving Aborn Street today. No parking will be allowed on-street between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Vehicles, otherwise, may be towed at the owner's expense. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes. In the event of inclement weather, the paving will be postponed to the following workday.
  2. Make Your Own Scarecrows: Kids of all ages can stop by Brooksby Farm from noon - 3 p.m. this weekend (Saturday through Monday) and next to make their very own scarecrows. You bring the clothes to stuff, the farm staff provides the straw. You can also help support Haven from Hunger by bringing a canned good with you to donate. Some needed items are tuna fish, peanut butter, spaghetti and tomato sauce.
  3. Acoustic coffee house: The vocal music students at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School will be putting on an acoustic coffee house tonight (7). The event is open to the public and costs $5 per person.
  4. The Friends of the Welch School Playground are putting on a 5K fundraiser and a one-mile family walk Saturday to benefit the playground project at the elementary school. The race starts at 9 a.m. You can find more information at www.pumpedforlife.net.
  5. Stop, Shop & Learn: Lahey Clinic is teaming up with the Northshore Mall again to encourage mallgoers to . The event is essentially an open house with the hospital's breast health staff from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. out in the JC Penney Court. Local women can stop by to receive a personal risk assessment, learn how to do a proper self breast exam, ask any questions they may have and get some giveaways from Lahey.
