Today is Tuesday, Aug. 28. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.

  1. Today's weather: The National Weather Service predicts showers and thunderstorms today before 2 p.m. with some of the storms producing heavy rainfall. There's a 90 percent chance of rain. The high for the day should be 82 degrees.
  2. School board: The Peabody School Committee reconvenes tonight from its summer recess and meets at the at 7:30 p.m.
  3. State Senate candidate Mary-Ellen Manning will now be joining us on Thursday from noon - 1 p.m. for a live chat with readers. Have a question for Manning on her campaign for the 2nd Essex District seat? This is a good opportunity to ask about it.
  4. Tickets for Tommy Fleming: Have you reserved your tickets yet to see the Irish singing wonder perform Sept. 7 or 8? .
  5. Summer Soiree: The and Northshore Magazine are hosting the final night of the 4th Annual Summer Soiree this Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. in the Nordstrom Wing. This week's theme is "Mixology & Cooking Demo." Bartenders from will be mixing up summer cocktails and serving samples while seminars will run on “how to create the perfect summer drink” and there will be free wine glass etching. There is a $10 suggested entrance fee with all proceeds the night benefitting Dress for Success BostonProject Smile and the Simon Youth Foundation.
