Sampler Study Day at the Peabody Historical Society

**This events takes placse at the Peabody Historical Society's Smith Barn, 38 Felton Street, Peabody, MA 01960

Do you own an antique needlework sampler or pictorial embroidery? Have you been wondering about its condition, significance, and proper care? If so, don't miss Sampler Study Day at the Peabody Historical Society! On Saturday, January 26th, members of the public are invited to bring their samplers to the Society's Smith Barn for a professional evaluation. Conservator Camille Myers Breeze of Museum Textile Services in Andover, Mass. will assess the condition of each sampler, discuss potential conservation issues, and make recommendations for appropriate mounting and framing. Society Curator Heather Leavell and Assistant Curator Lyn FitzGerald will discuss details related to each sampler's age, history, and style; share resources for researching the history of a sampler's maker; and advise on the proper care of these textiles. Museum Textile Services staff will also be available to help participants complete a short survey to include their samplers in a searchable online database administered by the Colonial Dames of America (www.nscda.org).

The fee to participate in Sampler Study Day is $20 per sampler. To attend this program, please register by contacting Heather Leavell at 978-977-0514 or heather.leavell@peabodyhistorical.org by Wednesday, January 23, 2013. Drop-ins are welcome and will be accommodated as time permits.
