Athas and Challenger McGinn Talk Ward 2, City Issues

Incumbent councilor seeks fifth term and is facing his first challenge since being elected eight years ago.

The race is on in Ward 2 for a seat on the City Council.

Arthur Athas, a semi-retired teacher who is wrapping up his fourth consecutive term on the council, is seeking two more years to continue working on issues in his ward, which includes much of downtown Peabody.

Athas is facing his first challenge since winning the seat in 2005 now from Pete McGinn.

McGinn, who has family history in Peabody politics and has been active himself in various projects and city boards over the years, is making his first bid for elected office.
