Wintry Mix May Cause Slippery Roads for Morning Commute

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 9 a.m.

Commuters may be dealing with slippery road conditions thanks to a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow Monday morning.

As of Sunday evening, a Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service was in effect across Massachusetts until 9 a.m. Monday, although the worst of the weather looked to be headed for the central and western areas of the state.

NWS said snow accumulation up to 1 inch was possible along with a thin layer of ice. Light freezing rain and slate was expected to continue from late Sunday night into Monday.

"When temperatures are below freezing, motorists need to be especially careful on bridges and overpasses where slippery spots can easily develop," says NWS.

NWS says the temperature should be in the lower 30s. The forecast for Peabody predicts things will warm up to around 44 degrees and turn into showers for the day.
