Strip Club to Face Disciplinary Hearing for Alleged Liquor Law Violations

State liquor authorities say the Golden Banana was caught serving drinks to intoxicated customers last month.

The Golden Banana will be appearing before the state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission at some point to answer allegations of staff over-serving patrons of the Peabody strip club.

The ABCC says a hearing date hasn't been scheduled yet. The alleged violations occurred last month and were discovered as part of Operation Last Call, in which the ABCC works with police to track where drunken drivers had their last drink.

Undercover ABCC investigators, assisted by police, visited the Golden Banana on Dec. 13 and reported back three liquor license violations in which intoxicated customers were still being served.

The ABCC conducts stings and other enforcement checks independently of city and town operations and takes disciplinary action at the state level, oftentimes merely notifying a local licensing board of infractions and/or decisions by commissioners after the fact.

In this case, the Peabody Licensing Board was aware that alleged violations occurred, but hasn't received any notice yet from the ABCC.

If ABCC commissioners find the business is guilty of the allegations, they will usually offer two options: suspension of the license or a fine.

The fine is based on a calculation of daily gross profits and the duration of the license suspension.
