The much-anticipated newest location for the fast food eatery finally opened its doors Monday on Route 114.

to build it, but Five Guys Burgers and Fries is finally open at 227 Andover St. in Peabody.

The Route 114 fast food joint opened its doors Monday to hungry customers. Regular store hours are 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. daily.

The interior of the restaurant is arranged just like any other Five Guys, although if you're so inclined to dine outdoors in favorable weather, there are four patio tables set up.

The restaurant is located next to  and across the street from --the site used to be a Mobil gas station.

The company, which has burger joints in 46 states and six Canadian provinces, and 27 in Massachusetts, recently opened new stores in Burlington and Chelsea in addition to Peabody, and has four more in the works between Boston and Westford.

In total, there are more than 900 locations.

Five Guys is perhaps best known for its variety of combinations on a burger – similar to Fuddruckers. Five Guys claims there are more than 250,000 possible ways to order your burger, in fact.

Five Guys is famous in the D.C. "Beltway" and around Maryland. When I was doing some work down there years ago, someone asked me, "Hey, have you ever been to Five Guys?" and I said, "no," I was treated to a huge, delicious, juicy burger with French Fries like my mother used to make. So I became a big "Five Guys" believer. You really can't compare Five Guys to Fuddruckers. Both have excellent products, but I don't have to shell out next month's mortgage payment at Five Guys. If you've never been, try it (you can also order online and pick it up later -- they will hold the fries until you get there so they don't get soggy --and they have an iPhone app as well).

The secret to Fuddruckers is to order a plain burger, which is ~ $6, and put your own condiments on. Since all the veggies and condiments are available to you, I made a huge salad and had a burger as well for that price. The burger was kinda small, IMO, but not as greasy as Five Guys.

A family of 4 can eat at Fuddruckers for $20...2 adult "meals" and 2 kids meals - burger with fries and a drink. Cheese is extra but with tax still runs $23 or so. I would suggest that is comparable or slightly less than what you would pay for the same thing at Five Guys. As for the taste and quality, they both seem to have ups and downs.

So I'm not the only person who makes myself a salad to go along with my Fuddruckers burger? :-) Saves a few bucks and calories having that instead of fries.
