Fit Werx 2 Makes the Slowtwitch 50

The downtown Peabody shop has been named among the top multisport shops in the country for 2012.

The Peabody specialty cycling shop run by Marty Miserandino and Dean Phillips has been named among the Top 50 multisport retailers in the United States.

Fit Werx 2 has made the Slowtwitch 50 -- that's the top 50 multisport retailers in the country ranked each year by the industry website Slowtwitch.com.

Miserandino, who lives in Hamilton, says he and Phillips, a Wenham resident, are honored at the recognition.

“We really enjoy, and take pride in, working with all of our clients, both road and triathlon cyclists, so it’s nice to be recognized for excellence,” he said.

An announcement from the local shop cites Bicycle Retailer, which notes manufacturers and distributors represented 85 percent of the voting on the top shops.

Fifteen percent of the score was also based on how many customers chose a business as their preferred shop, ratings by customers and the breadth of the shop's inventory and services.

Fit Werx 2 opened in Peabody on Foster Street six years ago as a second location for the original shop in Waitsfield, Vt.

In addition to the equipment and services for road cycling and triathlon enthusiasts around New England, Miserandino and Phillips can often be found on the road themselves, cycling for a good cause, or sponsoring someone else's charitable ride.
