Martini Retires After 31 Years, City Looks for New Chief Assessor

  1. Peabody’s longtime chief assessor Fred Martini retired last month after 31 years on the job. Martini was first appointed in 1982 and served through three different mayoral administrations, retiring on June 14. “Fred Martini’s long record of public service speaks for itself,” Mayor Ted Bettencourt said in a statement to the Boston Globe. He said Martini's long record is a "testament to his skills and expertise." The city has already posted an advertisement for a new chief assessor, which is a full-time position in charge of the Assessors office and serves as a member of the Board of Assessors.   2. There’s a painting party on tap Tuesday night at Cafe Bistro at Nordstrom as part of a four-part series at Northshore Mall restaurants this summer. There's another party planned for Wednesday night at the ArcWorks Community Art Center.
  3. North Shore Community College in Danvers is holding a special open house Thursday (5 p.m.) for people interested in jumping into the healthcare, financial services or advanced manufacturing fields. NSCC runs a short-term certificate program called College2Career.
  4. Sonic Drive-in "dollar dog dares you" today to enjoy a 6-inch All-American or Chili Dog for $1 at the Route 1 eatery. The special runs all day to join the contest, which could land you a $100 Sonic gift card. To enter, Instagram a photo of yourself eating your special today at the restaurant with #DollarDogDare and tag it @sonicdrivein.
  5. And don't forget, the Peabody Farmers Market is today from 1-6 p.m. in front of City Hall.
