Here's How $1.36M Breaks Down for New Turf Field

Mayor hoping to secure mix of private and public funding to pay for turf at Peabody High School.

So how much does an artificial turf field cost these days? $1.36 million for the job at Peabody High, according to local athletic facility design and planning firm Huntress Associates.

Mayor Ted Bettencourt explained to School Committee members Tuesday night that the estimated costs break down as follows:

  • $660,000 for the turf field
  • $300,000 for the lights
  • $250,000 for the track
  • $150,000 for site work, drainage and contingency costs

Bettencourt indicated he is hoping to secure a mix of private and public funding for the project, including donations, community preservation money and an appropriation from the City Council.
