Resident Reports Rabid Hedgehog Chasing People on Arielle Lane

The following information was provided by the Peabody Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it doesn't indicate a conviction.

The following are excerpts from reports in the Peabody Police Department press log from June 30-July 1.

Sunday, June 30

  • 3:37 p.m. a resident on Arielle Lane reported a rabid hedgehog in the area that is chasing people. An officer reports that the animal does not appear to be rabid and was hiding under a shed. The animal control officer was notified. 
  • 5:57 p.m. a caller reports that he has been stuck in an elevator for the past 25 minutes at the Kindred Hospital at 15 King Street. 
  • 6:28 p.m. a caller reports a motor vehicle fire on Martha Terrace. An officer finds that there is no actual fire but just minor damage to the breaks. 
  • 8:54 p.m. a caller reported that his credit card was used at multiple local locations. An officer was going to check with a store owner about video footage. 

Monday, July 1

  • 9 a.m. a two-car accident was reported on Andover Street. No injuries were reported. 
  • 1:35 p.m. a caller reports someone that stole an manhole cover and said that a manhole on Walnut Street is now open. The caller said that the suspect dropped the manhole cover on Caller Street near the Redemption Center. Public works staff was notified to respond to the incident and return the cover to the manhole. 
  • 1:47 p.m. a caller reports a customer with possible stolen credit cards at the 711 on Lynn Street. An officer spoke with the customer, who admitted to having the credit cards. 
  • 1:50 p.m. Peabody police stopped a man walking on the railroad tracks and eventually arrested him. Police arrested Ralph Sciarretta, 43, of 17 Tracey St., on Caller Street. Sciarretta was charged with trespassing and two outstanding warrants, one for breaking and entering misdemeanor and the other for shoplifting.
