Peabody Police Aid Salem in Hunt for Suspects After Shooting at Mack Park

Peabody police officers responded to the area of Mack Park in Salem Saturday night to aid Salem police in searching for two suspects who fled the scene.

Salem officers initially responded to the park just after 11 p.m. on a report of a shooting. The city line is just on the other side of Harmony Grove Cemetery, which is next to the park.

According to initial reports, officers at the scene said there was one victim -- a 20-year-old male -- who was shot in the chest and he was taken by ambulance to the hospital. The male was found near the playground at the top of the hill.

It was unclear how serious the victim's condition was Saturday night.

A witness told police two males fled the scene on foot -- both tall, one white and the other possibly Hispanic. Two handguns were also seen, according to reports.

Multiple police units responded to the scene, along with Salem's Engine 2 and EMTs.

According to reports, one suspect was wearing a white t-shirt and plaid shorts and the other male was wearing a white t-shirt and dark-colored shirts. Both suspects reportedly ran through the park toward Mason Street.
