Woman Says Stuck in Swamp and Slowly Sinking

The following information was provided by the Peabody Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following are excerpts from reports in the Peabody Police Department press log from July 2-4.

Tuesday, July 2

  • 2:55 p.m. Two Winthrop women, 26 and 21, were detained and issued court summonses for shoplifting at JC Penney.
  • 3:10 p.m. The Animal Control Officer responded to a report of a dog left locked in a car parked outside the Northshore Mall. The dog owner was given a warning about leaving the dog inside a car with the windows rolled up and no water.
  • 4:19 p.m. Erickson Thompson, 44, of 2 Perkins St. #3, Peabody, was arrested, following a motor vehicle stop at the corner of Perkins and Lowell streets. He was charged with driving with a suspended license.
  • 4:42 p.m. A female said she was stuck in the swamp next to the parking lot at the Welch School and was slowly sinking. She refused medical attention.
    6:55 p.m. Report of sewage backing up into a home on Mount Vernon Street. DPS was notified.
    8:06 p.m. A Swampscott Avenue resident reported $30 worth of lawn ornaments were stolen.
    8:21 p.m. Report of a car break-in. Police said $500 worth of electronics was taken from a car on Emerson Street the night before.
    11:20 p.m. 
  • 6:55 p.m. Report of sewage backing up into a home on Mount Vernon Street. DPS was notified.
  • 8:06 p.m. A Swampscott Avenue resident reported $30 worth of lawn ornaments were stolen.
  • 8:21 p.m. Report of a car break-in. Police said $500 worth of electronics was taken from a car on Emerson Street the night before.
  • 11:20 p.m. The manager of the Golden Banana reported that a male patron told one of the dancers he wanted to kill someone. She said the man made "gun-like hand motions." An officer spoke with the man -- a 54-year-old Lynnfield resident -- and he denied making those statements. He was asked to leave and complied without incident.

Wednesday, July 3

  • 12:21 a.m. Ryan Silveira,17, of 10 Shillaber St., Salem, was arrested at his home by Peabody police on a straight warrant for three counts of breaking and entering for a felony.
  • 5:58 a.m. A Columbia Boulevard resident reported that the newly sodded front lawn was damaged and two shrubs were stolen.
  • 7:48 a.m. A caller on Emily Lane reported someone dumped "For Sale" signs, TVs and lanterns on the lawn.
  • 11:49 a.m. A mand and a woman were transported to Salem Hospital after a car accident on Route 114 near Buttonwood Lane. The man was cited for tailgating.
  • 12:07 p.m. Security at Brooksby Village reported a maintenance vehicle was stolen.
  • 2 p.m. Eric M. Vaughn, 32, of 2 Benevento Cir., Peabody, was arrested and charged with shoplifting at Stop & Shop.
  • 2:04 p.m. Report of vandalism to a building on Caller Street.
  • 3:30 p.m. A 44-year-old Peabody man was issued a court summons, following a report of a past assault at Peabody Motor Sales on Foster Street. Police said the suspect fled the scene in a black Dodge heading toward Washington Street.
  • 4:12 p.m. A male caller on Lynnfield Street reported someone took his prescription for Aderol.
  • 6:07 p.m. An anonymous caller reported two Middle Eastern men at an apartment on Crane Brook Way were building a large, five-foot remote-controlled model airplane and found it a little suspicious. A cruiser was sent to check the area for suspicious activity. An officer located the garage, but it was closed and no one was around.
  • 7:48 p.m. A caller reported there was a motor vehicle on Paleologos Street with the engine running and a child sitting in the driver's seat, while the parent was sleeping inside. An officer said he would be filing child endangerment charges.
  • 9:42 p.m. Report of a large water main break on Gardner Street. DPS, the Fire Department and Atlantic Ambulance were notified.
  • 11:27 p.m. A caller reported a dark-skinned male was trying to rip a mirror off a white SUV on Washington Street. Police checked the area and didn't find anyone, but said the mirror did appear to be damaged.

Thursday, July 4

  • 12:25 a.m. Kenneth E. Vahey, 35, of 126 Maple St. #2, Lynn, was arrested, following a report of a disturbance inside a vehicle at the corner of Gardner Street and Abington Avenue. He was charged with domestic assault and battery.
  • 12:56 a.m. A caller reported a vehicle crashed into a parked car on Franklin Street and fled the scene. Police said the suspect vehicle -- possibly a white Chrysler SUV -- had heavy front-end damage.
  • 1:26 a.m. A caller reported kids were at Lakeshore Park on Lake Shore Road breaking glass and knocking over trash barrels. An officer said the juveniles fled the area before he arrived, but he did find several trash barrels knocked over.
  • 1:34 p.m. Two people, ages 26 and 22, were issued court summonses for shoplifting after they were detained at Macy's Men's and Furniture Store.
  • 4:16 p.m. A caller reported there were trespassers in the pool at the Avalon apartments on Essex Lane and they refused to leave and were threatening the lifeguard. Police said a compromise was reached.
  • 8:04 p.m. A caller reported several poles snapped after a transformer exploded at the corner of Lowell and Birch streets. An officer said multiple trees and at least five poles were down. The Fire Department and Peabody Municipal Light Plant were notified. Lynnfield police assisted with temporarily closing off Lowell Street. National Grid was also notified to check a nearby station.   • 8:58 p.m. A caller on Rodney Road reported a man had an insect in his ear.
  • 9:13 p.m. A caller on St. Anns Avenue reported debris from fireworks was landing on her roof.
  • 11:15 p.m. A caller reported a female all dressed in black was running in and out of traffic near Paddy Kelly's and causing a scene.
  • 11:39 p.m. A caller on Central Street reported an unknown female came over to her house and assaulted her daughter.

Friday, July 5

  • 12:19 a.m. A caller reported people were siphoning gas from a Nissan Murano on Walnut Street and then left the area in a vehicle with New Hampshire plates. An officer said two white males in a small black sedan left the area without obtaining any fuel.
  • 3:04 a.m. A caller at an Andover Street apartment reported a blue Dodge Caravan struck her car and fled eastbound on Route 114.
  • 8:25 a.m. A caller on Carpenter Street reported an ongoing dispute with his neighbor. He said his neighbor recently threw glass bottles into his pool and his yard.
