Peabody Relay for Life Celebrates 20th Year

Celebrating 20 years in Peabody, the 2014 Relay for Life
will take place this Friday and Saturday, June 6th and 7th,
at PVMHS stadium and track.  Over 500
team members will walk for 24 hours, raising funds and awareness for the
American Cancer Society Fight against Cancer.
Funds raised by the Peabody teams stay local, supporting care and
research in the Boston and North Shore area for patients and survivors of
cancer diagnosis.

The Peabody Relay begins at 3 p.m. with the Kids Care
activities.  Crafts, games, and a parade
will begin the event.  The Opening
Ceremony starts at 6:00 p.m., bringing everyone together for a high-energy
start to the evening.  At 6;15, the
Survivors Lap takes place.  During the Survivors Lap, upbeat music plays as all cancer survivors at the event take the first lap around the track cheered on by the other participants who line the track, celebrating their victory over cancer. The Caregivers Lap takes place next, honoring those who have cared for anyone fighting cancer.  At 9:00 p.m., the Luminaria Ceremony is a time to remember people we have lost to cancer, to support people who currently have cancer, and to honor people who have fought cancer in the past. The power of this ceremony lies in providing an opportunity for people to work through grief and find hope. It is a moving and powerful moment at the Relay.  At 11 p.m., the Fight Back Ceremony takes place , symbolizing the emotional commitment the teams and supporters make to fight against cancer and to commit to a year-round effort to save lives.  Relayers will continue to walk all through the night, enjoying theme laps and camaraderie as they travel miles on the track, raising money for cancer research and medical care for cancer patients.  At 9:00 a.m., the Closing Ceremony will take place, and all will celebrate a continued commitment to fight cancer.

During the Relay, a Survivors and Caregivers Dinner takes place.  Entertainment continuously takes place throughout the event.  The very popular Ms. Relay Pagent will take place again this year!  A Relay Store sells merchandise, Luminaria can be purchased, and tickets for amazing Raffle Baskets are available for sale.  Individual teams will be selling food products, meals, snacks, jewelry, providing services such as hair braiding, face painting, and games, and all proceeds go to the Peabody Relay for Life.  For more information, visit our website at Relay for Life Peabody, or e-mail Relay@asmallcreation.com
