Peabody Farmers Market Opens for 11th Season

The farmers market is located right on the corner of Chestnut and Lowell streets in front of Peabody City Hall every Tuesday from 1-6 p.m.

The Peabody Farmers Market opened for its 11th annual season last week and runs each Tuesday from 1-6 p.m. in front of City Hall.

This year's vendors are the Srybnys of Hereford Valley Farm in Andover who have sold their produce in Peabody since the market began, Leonord Tipent of Designer Vegetables/Tipent Farm in Wenham (new this year with cut flowers and produce) and Peabody resident Ana Ortins with baked goods and cookbooks (doing business as S.N.A.C.).

The Srybnys are back with a great variety of produce, from lettuce and tomatoes to corn, beets, zucchini, eggplant and cucumbers. There are also strawberries, blueberries and blackberries.

Peter Srybny said he hoped to have raspberries ready for July 23 and noted they grow different varieties of strawberries and therefore should have them available for another month.

Ortins says she chose the name S.N.A.C. for two reasons -- it's an acronym for the names of her grandchildren and it serves as an appropriate description of the snack-size goodies she bakes.

Ortins said she does a lot of her business online, along with other local bake sales, cooking demonstrations and the like. Her cookbook, "Portuguese Homestyle Cooking," can be found on her website.

Tipent hadn't arrived for the start of the market last week.

You can also check out the official Peabody market Facebook page for updates. EBT cards won't be accepted for payment this year.
