He had been considering a run after former Sen. Scott Brown declined to enter the race.
Former Massachusetts Senate minority leader Richard Tisei announced that he will not run after all in the special Senate election to fill the seat vacated by John Kerry. On Friday, after former Sen. Scott Brown announced that he won't run for the seat, all eyes turned to Tisei, who announced he was considering running. But on Saturday, Tisei put a stop to that, citing bad timing and a desire to see others have a shot at the seat. "I've been humbled by so many people who've urged me to run for this seat, following Senator Scott Brown's decision not to run on Friday," Tisei wrote in a statement Saturday night. "I believe it's imperative that the Republican party put forward a strong candidate who can help bring much-needed change to …

The former state senator's announcement came on Friday after Scott Brown said he would not run in the U.S. Senate race.
Former Mass. Senate Republican Leader Richard Tisei of Wakefield says he is considering a run for the U.S. Senate seat recently vacated by John Kerry after the long-time senator was appointed Secretary of State earlier this week. “In the coming days, I will be talking with family, friends, and supporters to consider the best role that I can play in helping to bring new, alternative leadership to Washington,” Tisei said in a statement released Friday. Tisei, who previously ran for Lieutenant Governor and just lost a very close race to Congressman John Tierney three months ago, said he was shocked to see Scott Brown announce he would not be running for the seat. "The news that Scott won't be running again came as a surprise to me, as to …

He narrowly lost the congressional race. What do you think his next move should be?
Former state Sen. Minority Leader Richard Tisei was seen to have a fighting chance -- and to some, a likely victory -- in the 2012 race for the 6th District congressional seat. But after the votes were counted, Tisei fell short and lost that race to incumbent Democratic Congressman John Tierney. Tisei did, however, win over most of the towns in the district and amassed a wave of energized support across the district along the way. Tisei has decades of experience in politics, having served in the Massachusetts legislature for more than 25 years and serving as Senate minority leader before leaving his seat to run as Charlie Baker's gubernatorial running mate in 2010. The Baker/Tisei ticket failed to defeat incumbent Gov. Deval Patrick, but …

Local Democrats and Republicans talk how to move forward now that the election is over.
No matter which side or candidate you were supporting, the 2012 election was likely one of the most politically and socially divisive elections in recent years. And victory was decidedly with one party in Massachusetts -- the Democrats -- on Tuesday with some hotly contested races that initially appeared could swing either way. The congressional race between incumbent John Tierney and Republican challenger Richard Tisei was widely considered one of the nastiest in the nation, highlighted by scathing attacks in political ads from both sides and even in person between the rival candidates. The U.S. Senate race between incumbent Scott Brown and Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren was similarly neck-and-neck at times and just as divisive…

The battle for the 6th District seat is over.
Congressman John Tierney has defeated Republican challenger Richard Tisei in an extremely tight race for Massachusetts 6th District congressional seat. This has been an unusually high-profile congressional race in Massachusetts, which is considered a stronghold for House Democrats. Tierney suffered from the impact of a family scandal involving his wife, her brother and her brother’s illegal offshore gambling business. Tisei, on the other hand, climbed to popularity with his aggressive campaign, his theme of bipartisanship and his years of serving in the state legislature. He out-raised Tierney in campaign donations every quarter. Tisei made Tierney’s family legal scandal a focus of the campaign, calling Tierney’s credibility into question…

There are many issues in the 6th District congressional race. Which one is the big factor for you?
The election is less than two weeks away. In the Massachusetts Sixth District, voters will decide who their next congressman will be. Incumbent Democrat John Tierney is in an intense race against Republican challenger Richard Tisei and Libertarian Daniel Fishman. The campaign has gained national attention. Legal drama involving Tierney's inlaws, Tierney campaign talk of Tisei having radical right-wing connections, and the emergence of Fishman's outside-the-box third party effort have made the race eventful, to say the least. All this, in the midst of a federal budget crisis, Medicare, student loans, abortion, high unemployment and more. We want to know what issue is the biggest deciding factor in your vote in the 6th District race. Discuss…

Republican congressional candidate Richard Tisei made a campaign stop at Brooksby Village Tuesday afternoon to talk the national debt, Medicare, Social Security, the culture in Washington and his track record as a state a legislator.
With just two weeks to go in the race, Richard Tisei's message remains the same: it's time for a change. Tisei, a Wakefield Republican and former state legislator challenging eight-term Congressman John Tierney for the 6th District, says he's taking nothing for granted; however, according to one poll last week and analysis from national political commentators, Tisei now has a sizeable edge over Tierney. "I feel like I have 200,000 people that I have to meet in the next two weeks, so I'm not going to leave any stone unturned," Tisei said Tuesday at a campaign stop at Brooksby Village. As a state senator, Tisei represented Melrose, Malden, Stoneham, Reading, Wakefield and Lynnfield for 20 years, but the 6th District, in comparison, spans 36 …

Will it have impact on the race?
Republican congressional candidate Richard Tisei has picked up the endorsement of the state's largest newspaper, the Boston Globe. The Globe cited Congressman John Tierney's family legal issues combined with Tisei's politically moderate nature: "Tierney’s family scandal — and his evasive handling of it — gives voters a reason to look elsewhere. Meanwhile, he has an appealing Republican challenger, a moderate who served with distinction as minority leader in the state Senate. This year, Sixth District voters should elect that challenger, Richard Tisei." The editorial says that while Tisei is further to the right than the majority of voters on some issues -- citing his call to repeal the Affordable Care Act -- the newspaper says that he …

The congressman called his opponent "shameless" and "irrelevant."
Democratic Congressman John Tierney brought sharpened teeth to the debate with Republican opponent Richard Tisei on NECN Thursday, and he wasted no time digging in. Just one day after the 6th District congressional candidates gathered in North Andover for a debate, the two appeared on "The Broadside" with Jim Braude and left most of the pleasantries at the door. Tierney faces an intense battle for reelection, with many polls showing Tisei either ahead of him or surging upward, and the eight-term congressman worked to aggressively take his opponent down a few notches Thursday -- attacking his decades-long state legislator record and calling him "shameless." Video of the entire debate can be watched on NECN's Web site. Early on, the focus …

The debate in the race for the 6th Congressional District was hosted by the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Candidates in the Massachusetts 6th District congressional race -- incumbent Democrat John Tierney, Republican Richard Tisei and Libertarian Daniel Fishman -- gathered at North Andover High School to debate issues important to voters. Hosted by the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce and moderated by Chairman Sal Lupoli, the debate lasted about an hour and focused on issues relating to small business and job growth. In what may at this point seem like a surprise, the debate focused on policy issues instead of personal issues. Tierney's wife Patrice and her family legal issues were not even mentioned. Tierney faces an intense battle for reelection, as many recent polls have showed Tisei either ahead of him or surging upward. And Fishman …

That's too bad. We can be guaranteed of ultra, out of control spending and additional "working people funded" abusive entitlement programs with this boatload of thieving thugs the voters seem to keep re-electing. I believed Richard Tisei was the best candidate for the 6th district congressional seat, and I believe the legitimate voters elected him. But then came in the illegitimate votes out of …   more ›
