Wintry Mix May Cause Slippery Roads for Morning Commute

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 9 a.m.

Commuters may be dealing with slippery road conditions thanks to a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow Monday morning. As of Sunday evening, a Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service was in effect across Massachusetts until 9 a.m. Monday, although the worst of the weather looked to be headed for the central and western areas of the state. NWS said snow accumulation up to 1 inch was possible along with a thin layer of ice. Light freezing rain and slate was expected to continue from late Sunday night into Monday. "When temperatures are below freezing, motorists need to be especially careful on bridges and overpasses where slippery spots can easily develop," says NWS. Snowy Saturday Expected

Peabody could receive up to 4 inches on Saturday.

More seasonable weather has arrived and the National Weather Service is calling for 2 to 4 inches of snow in Peabody on Saturday. The storm is expected to move in around 9 a.m. and exit by late afternoon, according to NWS. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday. The advisory says up to 6 inches could blanket the region. Temperatures are expected to top out around 24 degrees in Peabody with northerly winds at 6 to 9 mph. Visibility should be a quarter- to a half-mile at times. The low for Saturday is predicted at 16 degrees.
