The Ballot Rundown and Where to Vote Tuesday

Here's what you need to know before you hit the polls on Election Day in Peabody.

Election Day, and the end to months and months of intense campaigning, is almost here. The polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Massachusetts voters, in addition to marking off their choice for the White House, will also finally decide neck-and-neck races for the U.S. Senate and House and three contentious measures proposed for the Bay State. Here's a look at some of the big ticket races that will appear on the ballot Tuesday for Peabody voters: REPRESENTATIVE IN CONGRESS SIXTH DISTRICT Additionally, Peabody voters that live in Ward 5 Precinct 2 or Ward 6 will be asked to choose between incumbent Democrat state Rep. Who's Who and Where to Vote in State Primary

Here's your local guide to the state primary on Sept. 6.

Massachusetts holds its state primary election Thursday to narrow down the field of political party candidates in a number of races prior to November -- there are only two contested seats at this time, however, that affect Peabody. In the 2nd Essex District race for the state Senate, which represents Peabody, Salem, Beverly, Danvers and Topsfield, there are four Democrats vying for the party candidacy in the general election. Here's a look at the ballot, courtesy of the Secretary of State's office: The other contested race is for the 5th District Governor's Councilor, which represents Peabody along with 38 other cities and towns. If you're hitting the polls today, here's what you should know about the ballot.

Massachusetts joins nine other states today on Super Tuesday to narrow down the field of presidential candidates, heading into political party conventions this summer. Polls are open from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. Sure to attract the most attention on the ballot in this primary election, despite the fact that Massachusetts is a blue state on the political map, are the Republican candidates for the oval office: Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich. Romney, a former Bay State governor, handily won Massachusetts when he ran in the Republican Primary in 2008, only losing the 8th District -- the city of Boston and some outlying communities -- to John McCain.
