Mt. Vernon Remains Closed After Water Main Break, Road Damaged

Water main break called in to police Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m.

The cold weather was most likely a factor in Sunday morning's water main break on Mount Vernon Street, Peabody Police Officer James Christman told Peabody Patch on the scene.  The break was first reported at 6:30 a.m., Christman said. Mount Vernon Street remained closed as of 11 a.m.  Initially, there was concern of ice build-up creating a hazard in the area. No vehicle accidents or injuries were reported in conjunction with the break, but Christman did say parts of the road have been damaged due to the large amount of water.  For breaking news as it happens, sign up for Peabody Patch news alerts.
