A 33-year-old Peabody man is facing multiple charges in a stabbing case from last summer.
The case against a 33-year-old Peabody man accused of stabbing another man last summer is now heading to superior court. The Salem News reports Freedom Weymouth of Peabody is charged with attempted murder and multiple counts of assault and battery and was indicted on those charges Jan. 17. The case now moves to the higher court where prosecutors can seek harsher penalties if Weymouth is found guilty. According to the Salem News, Weymouth attacked a 31-year-old Lynn man last June, stabbing him several times, and then attacked his former girlfriend, who was involved in the incident. Police say the victim and the suspect -- a Berwick, Maine resident -- knew each other.
According to police, the suspect in a stabbing at a Route 1 hotel early Wednesday morning is a Maine man. Police arrived at Homewood Suites shortly after 1 a.m. to find a 47-year-old Beverly man in the lobby with a visible stab wound. He was transported to Mass. General Hospital in Boston for treatment and shortly thereafter, police sought a warrant for a 45-year-old Berwick, Maine resident. Those warrant charges are for attempted murder, domestic assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (a knife). Police said both men knew each other, but did not indicate what might have led to the stabbing.

A stabbing was reported at Homewood Suites early Wednesday morning.
[Editor's Note: Originally the hotel was incorrectly reported as the Hampton Inn, which is next door to Homewood Suites.] Peabody police are investigating a stabbing that occurred at a Route 1 hotel early Wednesday morning. Detective Michael Crane said officers were called to Homewood Suites around 1:10 a.m. on a report of a stabbing and found a 37-year-old Beverly man in the lobby of the building. The man had a visible stab wound to his chest and was semi-conscious, Crane said. The victim was taken to Mass. General Hospital in Boston by ambulance and was later conscious and alert enough to speak with officers. A 41-year-old Beverly man being charged with a number of recent robberies, one of which was in West Peabody, remains held without bail.
A 41-year-old Beverly man charged with a stabbing and robbery in West Peabody, along with a string of other robberies in nearby towns, is being held without bail as a danger to the public. The Salem News reported that Michael Whitcomb's attorney did not contest that request by prosecutors at a dangerousness hearing on Friday in Peabody District Court. The lawyer waived both her client's appearance in court and a full hearing on the dangerousness determination, according to the Salem News. Whitcomb has been held without bail since his arrest Oct. 27 for the Oct. 23 incident in West Peabody.
