The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday.
On mobile? You can see interactive map here. Newsweek has ranked Peabody Veterans Memorial High School as the 1837th best high school in the country. For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about PVMHS' ranking, and every other ranked high school by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above. "Hair Through the Hurt" supports Celeste Corcoran and her daughter Sydney, who were both severely injured in the Boston Marathon bombing.
Aspiring beauticians, alumni and local professionals are doing their part to help out two victims of the Boston Marathon bombing with a fundraiser May 14 at Peabody High. "Hair Through the Hurt," which offers haircuts to eyebrow waxes, benefits a recovery fund for Celeste Corcoran and her daughter Sydney, who were both severely injured in the bombing. Celeste, a hair stylist, lost both her legs below the knees, while her daughter Sydney, a senior at Lowell High School, also suffered severe injuries. Mother and daughter face a long road to recovery. Cheryl English, who heads up the Cosmetology Department at PVMHS, and a few of her students also traveled to Raynham a couple weeks ago to pitch in at another fundraiser for the Corcorans. The …

The program with Hyundai Village of Danvers gives one student a chance to win a car of a $5,000 college scholarship.
Peabody High senior Joseph Borgatti won a pre-owned Honda Civic Thursday after placing the right key -- one of 50 -- in the ignition. The field house at Peabody High erupted in cheers and streamers at the sound of the engine coming to life. "I don't think too many high schools give away cars," Principal Ed Sapienza told the crowd in the gym as Thursday's event got underway. "This is special." The students lined up single file, facing each other as they each took turns to see if their key was the right one. After 14 of his peers rotated through, it was Borgatti's turn, and he came away the winner. Sapienza said Borgatti recently won the distinction of an Advanced Placement Scholar from the College Board and is a "very good student." Now in …

[The following letter was submitted to Peabody Patch.] The 2013 senior class officers of Peabody High School held the first annual “A Taste of Peabody” pizza tasting on March 7 in the high school cafeteria. Tanners' baseball coach Mark Bettencourt will be taking the reigns of the high school football team as well.
Peabody native Mark Bettencourt is the new head football coach at Peabody High. Athletic Director Phil Sheridan announced Thursday that Bettencourt, who is also the Tanners' head baseball coach, was hired this week after being recommended by a football coach search committee. The Salem News reports that Bettencourt was a finalist for the job back in 2008 when Scott Wlasuk was hired instead to lead the Tanners' football club. "The committee felt strongly that Mr. Bettencourt has the necessary skills and personal attributes that are needed in our football program right now. We believe that his passion, discipline, organizational skills and knowledge of both the game and our community uniquely qualify him as we move forward," said Sheridan in…
