Peabody Tanners Boys Baseball Blanked by Danvers High Ace

Peabody bats silenced by Danvers High Falcons starting pitcher Scott Hovey in a tight contest.

The Peabody Tanners Boys Baseball team hoped to travel to Danver High's Twi Field and get a win, but ran into a buzzsaw in the form of Danvers Falcons starting pitcher Scott Hovey. The end result was a 2-0 shutout that left Peabody High batters frustrated as they were unable to solve Hovey. Still, it was a tight contest and the two teams battled to keep the score close throughout the game. Photographer Bob Roche was there and captured a great deal of the action in this image gallery.

IMAGE GALLERY: Peabody Tanners Have Field Day Against Revere

Peabody High boys baseball scores impressive 12-1 win Monday at home.

Peabody Tanners starting pitcher Tommy Burns was on cruise control and struck out seven Revere High batters enroute to a lopsided, 12-1 win at home on Monday. The Peabody High baseball team improved its record to 4-3 and never looked back after jumping out to an early lead on a gray, drizzly afternoon. Burns improved his record to 2-0. Peabody Tanners catcher Aaron Comak had three hits, two RBIs and scored four runs in the victory and his teammate Ryan Noftle also had three hits, knocked in two runs and scored three runs in the win. Peabody Tanners Crush Salem High Witches, 11-3

Peabody High baseball team bangs out 18 hits on a cold day at Palmer's Cove.

The weather conditions may not have been that great for baseball when the Peabody Tanners rolled into Palmers Cove Wednesday morning to take on the Salem High Witches. In fact, it was downright cold. But the Peabody Tanners baseball team had no problem getting their bats heated up as they belted 18 hits and rolled to an 11-3 victory. Peabody Tanners Nearly Shut Out Lynn English, 10-1

Peabody High baseball starting pitcher Tommy Burns carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning.

The Peabody Tanners boys baseball team celebrated Patriots Day with an impressive win over Lynn English at home, 10-1. The Tanners got strong pitching from starter Tommy Burns, who was working on a no-hitter until the sixth inning. Tanners players Ramses Vittini, Genaro Ciulla, and Wes Sanders all had multiple hit games. Peabody High's Bobby Losano belted a two-run home run in the loss.

The Peabody Tanners boys baseball team hoped to get a win against Beverly High School on Friday afternoon at home, but came up short. The Tanners fell to Beverly, 5-3, even though Tanners player Bobby Losano struck a two-run home run during the game. The Tanners baseball team will now have to wait until Wednesday morning before they can shoot for a win when they go on the road to play the Salem High Witches at 10 a.m. On Friday afternoon, photographer Bob Roche captured a lot of the action between the Peabody Tanners and Beverly High in this image gallery.

Peabody Tanners baseball looking to repeat as NEC Large champs for the sixth year in a row.

For a perpetual baseball powerhouse like the Peabody Tanners, every season comes with high expecations. This year is no different. Under Head Coach Mark Bettencourt, the Tanners have won five straight division championships. But Bettencourt isn't going to give his players any slack, even after last season's impressive 16-6 campaign. "We've never won a state championship," Bettencourt said Tuesday, after his squad scrimmaged with North Andover at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School. "Every year it's what the kids are hoping for and expecting." Last year's season ended in the second round of the MIAA tournament with a loss to Lawrence, but Bettencourt has set a goal for his team to go deep in the tournament this year.
