UPDATE: Commuters Should Beware of Icy Roads This Evening

National Weather Service says overall snowfall for Peabody area may be closer to 7-12 inches now, amid wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain. Storm will mostly affect Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.

The National Weather Service urges commuters to use caution on their way home during rush hour this evening. While roadways have been primarily wet this afternoon with light snowfall, icy spots will likely develop as sunset nears, says the NWS in a special weather statement this afternoon. Snowfall is expected to be heavy through the evening rush hour, lessening in intensity after 7 p.m. "In addition to poor visibility, drivers should allow extra travel time and be alert for icy spots on bridges, ramps and secondary roads," says the NWS. The latest storm prediction for the region, as of late this afternoon, calls for 4-8 inches of snow, amid a wintry mix, blanketing the region between Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. Peabody May See 2-4 Inches of Snow Saturday

Snow will fall during most of Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Peabody may see 2 to 4 inches of snow over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. NWS has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the area with snow showers expected late Friday night and steady snow on Saturday. Snowfall is mainly expected after 2 a.m. and the steady snow on Saturday should taper off by 5 p.m., followed by snow showers late Saturday night. The snowy conditions will be joined by fog and winds that may exceed 20 mph. NWS said there is a “moderate to high probability that winter weather advisories will be needed for a portion of southern New England.” The heaviest snowfall should hit southeastern Massachusetts, but NWS warned that a shift in the storm track could result in changes in the type of precipitation…

Snowy Saturday Expected

Peabody could receive up to 4 inches on Saturday.

More seasonable weather has arrived and the National Weather Service is calling for 2 to 4 inches of snow in Peabody on Saturday. The storm is expected to move in around 9 a.m. and exit by late afternoon, according to NWS. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday. The advisory says up to 6 inches could blanket the region. Temperatures are expected to top out around 24 degrees in Peabody with northerly winds at 6 to 9 mph. Visibility should be a quarter- to a half-mile at times. The low for Saturday is predicted at 16 degrees.
