[The following obituary is courtesy of Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home.] Leonard Marshall, 87, a retired Peabody firefighter, died Saturday evening at the Peabody Glenn Nursing Center after a long illness. He was the loving husband of 64 years to Francelina (Cunha)Marshall. Lenny was born in Peabody on Jan. 28, 1925, the son of the late Jesse and Margaret (Silveria) Marshall and was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1942. He was a distinguished veteran, entering the U.S. Army in 1943, serving with the the 82nd Airborne Division. He was in the Invasion of Normandy, France as a glider, was the recipient of the Purple Heart and later received the French Legion Medal of Honor from the government of France. Keilty, 90, beloved husband of the late Theresa (MacLellan) Keilty, died in his sleep Friday morning at Putnam Farm in Danvers. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Patrick and Bridget (Killeen) Keilty. He was a 1939 graduate of Peabody High School, then studied ornamental horticulture at Essex Agricultural High School 1940-1941, where he captained the cross country team and was a miler for the winter track team. He served in Europe with the U.S. Army’s 66th Division as a Staff Sergeant during World War II, and was an Army Ranger. He was a devoted husband to Nancy B. (Matson) O’Keefe with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. Besides his loving wife Nancy, he leaves four children: Lawrence Jr. and his wife Renee of Northborough, Brian and his wife Joanne of Topsfield, Lori Burke and her husband Jay of Reading and Gary of Peabody. Born on Feb. 23, 1948 in Salem, and raised in Peabody, Mrs. Endslow was the eldest daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Eagan) Carlin of Peabody. Alzira (Lopes) Bettencourt, 83, of Peabody, wife of the late Manuel J. Bettencourt with whom she shared 58 years of marriage, died at her home with her family at her side on Thursday, May 10, 2012. Mrs. Bettencourt was born in Peabody on Jan. 3, 1929, daughter of the late Alberto and Alzira (Andrade) Lopes. At age two, following her mother’s death her family moved to Gauveia, Portugal and returned to Peabody 12 years later. She finished her studies in Peabody, residing in the city for the rest of her life. Mrs. Bettencourt was a loving mother who devoted her life to creating a home for her family. Peabody native Jane Wilson was a longtime fifth-grade teacher at the Kiley School and former principal at Higgins Middle School. She was 67.
Peabody native Jane Wilson, a longtime Tanner City educator, died last Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She was 67. Wilson, who spent many years teaching fifth-grade at the Kiley School and was a former housemaster and principal at Higgins Middle School, succumbed to a long battle with cancer. She retired from teaching in 2003. A funeral was held on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home on Lynn Street, followed by a Mass at St. Richard's Church in Danvers.
