A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 9 a.m.
Commuters may be dealing with slippery road conditions thanks to a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow Monday morning. As of Sunday evening, a Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service was in effect across Massachusetts until 9 a.m. Monday, although the worst of the weather looked to be headed for the central and western areas of the state. NWS said snow accumulation up to 1 inch was possible along with a thin layer of ice. Light freezing rain and slate was expected to continue from late Sunday night into Monday. "When temperatures are below freezing, motorists need to be especially careful on bridges and overpasses where slippery spots can easily develop," says NWS. Watch out for flooding in low lying or flood prone areas tonight.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for much of Eastern Massachusetts tonight, including Peabody and the North Shore. "At 7:59 p.m. radar indicated a band of thunderstorms moving rapidly northward at 50 mph," the NWS reports. "This band contains heavy rains. The immediate Boston metro area and North Shore should expect a brief period of heavy rains, resulting in ponding of water in low lying and poor drainage areas." Thunderstorms with heavy rainfall rates are headed toward Peabody, which has prompted a flood warning.
A flash flood warning is now in effect for Peabody until 10 p.m. on Friday, according to the National Weather Service. The warning was issued because of the heavy rain moving across the area as part of thunderstorms. The storms are headed northward and have already dropped one to two inches of rain in a short period of time, the weather service said. The warning, which was issued at 5:55 p.m. on Friday, includes all of Essex County. “Already reports have been received of roads becoming inundated with several inches of water in a very short period of time,” the weather service said in issuing the warning. “Flash flooding of small streams and urban areas is occurring or imminent.” The weather service said that anyone near a stream or creek …

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a tornado watch for Peabody and surrounding communities. NWS says severe thunderstorms are moving across Massachusetts, bringing rain, high winds and the possibility of a tornado to Essex County. Localized flooding is also possible. NWS says severe thunderstorms possible again this afternoon and tonight, and even isolated tornadoes are possible.
There is a significant threat of severe thunderstorms again across Massachusetts today, according to the National Weather Service. NWS issued a special weather statement shortly before 11 a.m., saying the storms are likely to hit late this afternoon (around 4 p.m.) and through the evening. The current forecast for Peabody puts the worst of the storms after 11 p.m. "The main hazards will be damaging wind gusts and large hail, and even isolated tornadoes," says the NWS, although the greatest threat is in the western portion of the state and Northern Connecticut. National Weather Service forecasts call for thunderstorms in Peabody area, which could bring rain and wind, but are also expected to break the heat.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a special weather statement for Peabody and surrounding communities with severe thunderstorms in the forecast. Thunderstorms are expected early this afternoon into this evening. There is a 50 percent chance of precipitation, according to the NWS. Storms could bring "damaging winds" and "large hail along with torrential downpours," says the NWS. And that could lead to flash flooding in some areas. Today is going to be a scorcher, with heat index values up 102 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The actual temperature is expected to reach the mid 90s in the Peabody area, but high humidity levels will make it feel much hotter and can cause dangerous conditions for anyone ill-prepared. With a heat advisory still in effect today between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., the National Weather Service urges anyone outdoors to be extra cautious. The forecast for the Peabody area today puts the high at 95 degrees, but the heat index goes as high as 103, which can create dangerous conditions for people outdoors for prolonged periods. "Heat kills. Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances," says the NWS. "This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes."
