Former city councilor says due to an oversight on his nomination papers, he was unable to get on ballot and has withdrawn from the special election.
Certainly an odd turn for the race. Peabody Democrat Jim Moutsoulas withdrew from the race for State Representative Saturday, just days after filing his nomination papers with election officials. That means there won't be a Democratic Primary after all in March, leaving School Committee member Beverley Griffin Dunne with independent candidate and city councilor Dave Gravel to await the winner of the Republican contest between Greg Bunn and Leah Cole. Moutsoulas says the Secretary of State's office discovered an oversight in his papers that prevented him from getting on the ballot. That oversight was neglecting to write in his party affiliation, according to Moutsoulas. His campaign released a statement Saturday, explaining the gaffe. …

The five candidates are: Each of the candidates has now established an online presence, most recently being Cole, a 24-year-old South Peabody resident. You can find her Facebook page here. The candidates say they are knocking on doors and organizing campaign support in the few short weeks they have until the March 5 primary, followed by the final special election on April 2. Cole, however, has not publicized any campaign activity yet. Moutsoulas, a former city councilor, held an organizational campaign meeting this past Sunday at the Knights of Columbus, while Gravel, another city councilor, …

Two city members of the GOP are making a bid for the vacant 12th Essex District seat.
Local Republicans Greg Bunn and Leah Cole are entering the fray with three other seasoned Peabody politicians for the city's now vacant seat in the Mass. House of Representatives. Bunn has already launched his online campaign for the 12th Essex District with Facebook and Twitter accounts and a website. Cole, however, does not appear to have an online presence yet. While Bunn may be relatively unknown in the local political scene, his resume shows he does have experience in state government. Bunn works within the Executive Office of Workforce and Development, is part of a management team for the North Shore Career Centers and is a former social worker with the Department of Mental Health. A campaign statement from Bunn paints the special …

Former Peabody city councilor Jim Moutsoulas also reportedly planning to run for the open seat.
The dates for the special election to choose a successor to late Peabody Rep. Joyce Spiliotis have now been set, giving candidates three months to get their campaigns rolling, but only a few short weeks to decide if they're in or out. Party primaries will be held March 5 while the final special election will be held April 2. Candidates only have until Jan. 22, however, to submit nomination papers and signatures (at least 150) with local election officials. That paperwork must then be filed with the Secretary of State's office by Jan. 29. "The House of Representatives has ordered a special state election to be held...to fill the vacancy in the 12th Essex Representative District caused by the untimely death of Representative Joyce A. …

What a dope. Hopefully now he'll just go away. As I remember correctly he tried to run against Joyce Spiliotis in last year's primary and got to City Hall to turn in his papers 5 minutes after the deadline passed and the clerk's office had already closed.   more ›
