Tax Deadlines Extended Due to Marathon Bombing

State and federal authorities say they want to give individuals impacted by the bombing more time to file their taxes.

Due to the Boston Marathon bombing, two deadlines to file income taxes have been extended for the Boston area.  The Mass. Department of Revenue has extended the deadline to file income tax returns to April 23, according to the DOR. The extension applies to anybody impacted by the bombing. The DOR extended the deadline saying they wanted to give anybody impacted by the Boston Marathon bombings more time to file. The original deadline was Tuesday, April 16. Also, the federal Internal Revenue Service has extended its income tax return filing deadline to July 15, according to its website. When Can I File My 2012 Tax Return?

The IRS has announced a delayed start to the 2012 tax filing season.

You'll have to wait a bit if you are used to filing your annual tax return at the earliest possible date. The Internal Revenue Service has revised its opening date for tax season -- pushing it eight days to Jan. 30, 2013. The tax filing deadline is Monday, April 15.  The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on Jan. 30. Most taxpayers should be able to file on that date though some revised forms may not be immediately available. You can blame the delay on the federal "fiscal cliff" crisis and the new tax bill Congress passed just after Dec. 31. You can find more information in this Forbes article. Today is Friday, April 15. Here are five things you need to know today: 1. Today's weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a sunny, cool day with highs in the upper 40s. North winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph, becoming east in the afternoon. On Friday night, it will be mostly clear. Lows in the mid 30s. East winds 5 to 10 mph. 2. Income tax filing deadline: Today is the last day before the Internal Revenue Service's deadline to file federal income taxes on April 18.
