Maine Man Wanted for Attempted Murder, Assault in Hotel Stabbing

Police say the victim and the suspect -- a Berwick, Maine resident -- knew each other.

According to police, the suspect in a stabbing at a Route 1 hotel early Wednesday morning is a Maine man. Police arrived at Homewood Suites shortly after 1 a.m. to find a 47-year-old Beverly man in the lobby with a visible stab wound. He was transported to Mass. General Hospital in Boston for treatment and shortly thereafter, police sought a warrant for a 45-year-old Berwick, Maine resident. Those warrant charges are for attempted murder, domestic assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (a knife). Police said both men knew each other, but did not indicate what might have led to the stabbing.

Police Investigate Stabbing at Route 1 Hotel

A stabbing was reported at Homewood Suites early Wednesday morning.

[Editor's Note: Originally the hotel was incorrectly reported as the Hampton Inn, which is next door to Homewood Suites.] Peabody police are investigating a stabbing that occurred at a Route 1 hotel early Wednesday morning. Detective Michael Crane said officers were called to Homewood Suites around 1:10 a.m. on a report of a stabbing and found a 37-year-old Beverly man in the lobby of the building. The man had a visible stab wound to his chest and was semi-conscious, Crane said. The victim was taken to Mass. General Hospital in Boston by ambulance and was later conscious and alert enough to speak with officers.
