Police say the victim and the suspect -- a Berwick, Maine resident -- knew each other.
According to police, the suspect in a stabbing at a Route 1 hotel early Wednesday morning is a Maine man. Police arrived at Homewood Suites shortly after 1 a.m. to find a 47-year-old Beverly man in the lobby with a visible stab wound. He was transported to Mass. General Hospital in Boston for treatment and shortly thereafter, police sought a warrant for a 45-year-old Berwick, Maine resident. Those warrant charges are for attempted murder, domestic assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (a knife). Police said both men knew each other, but did not indicate what might have led to the stabbing.

Detective Michael Crane said officers were called to Homewood Suites around 1:10 a.m. on a report of a stabbing and found a 37-year-old Beverly man in the lobby of the building. The man had a visible stab wound to his chest and was semi-conscious, Crane said. The victim was taken to Mass. General Hospital in Boston by ambulance and was later conscious and alert enough to speak with officers.
