What You Need to Know if You're Out in the Heat Today

The National Weather Service offers the following advice with a heat advisory in effect again today from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.

With a heat advisory still in effect today between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., the National Weather Service urges anyone outdoors to be extra cautious. The forecast for the Peabody area today puts the high at 95 degrees, but the heat index goes as high as 103, which can create dangerous conditions for people outdoors for prolonged periods. "Heat kills. Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances," says the NWS. "This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes." If you are working or spending prolonged periods of time outdoors today, be sure to wear lightweight clothing and drink plenty of water, the NWS says, and try and put off …
