A SUV driven by a Boxford teenager crashed into an utility pole on Route 114 on Tuesday evening, sending wires down and cutting electricity for a time.
The electric wires that came down on Route 114 on Tuesday night were due to a sport utility vehicle that crashed into an utility pole, according to Peabody police. The crash occurred at about 6:15 p.m. in front of Maddy’s Car Wash, just east of the Danvers town line. One utility pole in font of the car wash snapped off at the top, dropping utility wires down to just a few feet off the road. The next pole to the west, near Outback Steakhouse, also bent down toward the road. The crash happened when a Ford Escape, driven by Amanda Monteforte, 18, of Boxford, was heading east on Route 114 at the Danvers-Peabody line, said Peabody Police Sgt. Robert Waugh. Police say two men arrested in recent days are suspects in similar armed robberies in Peabody, Salem, Beverly and Danvers.
Police have arrested a second man now in connection to the armed robbery Sunday night at Town Variety on Central Street. Dennis M. Porter, 43, of 25 Greatwoods Rd., Lynn, was taken into custody without incident at Pine Grove Estates on Route 1 shortly before 10 a.m. on Wednesday on a warrant for a probation violation and a charge of armed robbery. Glenn Roderick, 41, of 18 Elm St. #2, Peabody, was arrested on a warrant for armed robbery Monday afternoon. Police spokesman Detective Michael Crane said in a statement issued Wednesday afternoon that Porter is also a suspect in similar robberies in Beverly, Salem and Danvers, and those incidents remain under investigation. Six North Shore men, including one Peabody resident, were arrested Friday morning. Police seized thousands of oxycodone pills, more than $50,000 in cash and a gun.
Authorities arrested six local men, including one Peabody resident, Friday morning in several drug raids across the North Shore. One of the men was also identified as the owner of Bangkok Paradise in Salem. Essex Country District Attorney's office spokeswoman Carrie Kimball-Monahan said warrants were executed at 10 different locations in Lynn, Peabody, Salem and Danvers and police also seized thousands of oxycodone pills along with more than $50,000 in cash and a gun. She said the arrests were the result of a "long-term, multi-agency drug investigation." The man who was missing on Friday morning from a Peabody grocery store has been located in Danvers.
The man who went missing in the Route 114 area on Friday morning has been located at Kane’s Flower World in Danvers. Danvers police said on its Facebook page at about 11:10 a.m. that he had been located. The 88-year-old man had been with his wife while shopping at Trader Joe's in Peabody, just over the Danvers town line on Route 114 (Andover Street), when he went missing at about 10 a.m. Danvers and Peabody police searched the area for him. He was believed to be found uninjured.

A 45-year-old male patient fell from a second-story window at the nursing home late Wednesday afternoon.
Danvers police and firefighters responded to Hunt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Lindall Street in Danvers just before 4 p.m. this afternoon, where a man reportedly fell from a second story window. According to the Essex County District Attorney's office, a 45-year-old patient, James Hussein of Peabody, was discovered outside the building by a visitor of the nursing home. Initial police scanner reports indicated Lyons Ambulance Service requested a medflight, but the call was later cancelled. Hunt Nursing Home staff said they had checked on Hussein in his bedroom at approximately 3 p.m. State Police investigators have ruled out foul play, but the situation remains under investigation. I think she is lucky it was just a pole....but for a different reason. Because, IF she was driving distracted and hit (or God forbid, killed) someone else it would be an absolute tragedy (which she would have, rightfully, spent some time in jail for). I am glad that she is okay too...but I'm even more glad that some innocent motorist/pedestrian was spared from her careless driving. People need to…   more ›
