Jeep Hits Plow Truck on I-95, Leaving 1 Driver Hospitalized

A Jeep burst into flames after smashing into the rear of a plow truck on the highway.

A fiery crash in the wee hours Tuesday morning temporarily shut down all traffic lanes on I-95 North in Peabody near the Danvers line. State and local police responded to a report of a truck fire on the highway at approximately 1:54 a.m., arriving at the scene to find that a Jeep had crashed into a state highway plow truck. State police said the Jeep hit the rear of the plow and caught fire -- it was fully engulfed when they arrived. The driver was then sent to Mass. General Hospital with serious injuries. The Salem News reports that the person's injuries were not fatal.

Car Crash Knocks Out Power to West Peabody Homes

A light pole snapped in half after a car crashed into it Sunday afternoon.

An undetermined number of homes in West Peabody lost power Sunday afternoon after a car accident on Elizabeth Lane. Peabody Municipal Light Plant says a vehicle crashed into a light pole at 24 Elizabeth Ln. and the pole was snapped in half, bringing down wires and the transformer. A PMLP crew was still on scene around 3 p.m., replacing the pole and transformer. The crash was first reported around 2 p.m. Peabody police say the vehicle apparently drove off after hitting the pole. Two-Car Collision Leaves One Driver Trapped

Firefighters had to pull one driver out of his upturned SUV after a two-car collision Sunday. Neither driver suffered serious injuries.

A nasty-looking collision at the corner of Warren and Endicott streets early Sunday evening fortunately ended without any serious injuries. One vehicle -- a 2002 Ford Explorer -- ended up on its side and firefighters had to cut off the roof to pull the driver out. The Salem News reports that the driver  -- a Burlington man -- was taken to Salem Hospital, but did not have life-threatening injuries. The other driver, a Peabody man in a 1998 Jeep Laredo, declined medical treatment. The Jeep did sustain heavy front-end damage. The accident was initially reported around 6:15 p.m. A Public Services crew at the scene said a guardrail was pushed into the sidewalk as a result of the collision. It is time to do something about traffic speed and no stopping at stop signs until someone gets killed. Endicott St. is a speedway no one goes 25 or 30 miles an hour almost impossible to get out of your driveway. There are alot of children on this street thank God none of them were on the sidwalk when that car filipped over and tire fell off. Something needs to be done.   more ›
