Peabody Board of Health Urges 'No' Vote on Medical Marijuana

The city's health officials say the data from other states shows that in fact most users of medical marijuana are men in their 30s who have histories of substance abuse, not life-threatening illnesses.

The following statement was submitted by city Health Director Sharon Cameron on behalf of the Peabody Board of Health. The city of Peabody Board of Health is opposed to Massachusetts referendum Question 3, “Medical Use ofMarijuana.” The Board of Health has compassion for those suffering from diseases like cancer, AIDs, and other debilitating illnesses. However, the Board of Health opposes Ballot Question 3 for the following reasons: The Board of Health believes that Ballot Question 3 will create a public health problem by promoting smoking and by expanding access to marijuana to youth and to adults with substance abuse histories. City To Receive Less Flu Vaccine This Season

The following was submitted by the Peabody Board of Health: The local Health Departments of Peabody, Swampscott, and Marblehead would like to inform residents of some important changes in the distribution of free, state-supplied influenza (flu) vaccine for the 2011-2012 flu season.  In past years, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) has provided free, state-supplied flu vaccine to local health departments for distribution to priority groups. Traditionally, senior citizens and adults with chronic illnesses have been among the highest priority groups and the first to be offered vaccine.  This year, the MDPH has informed all the local Health Departments in Massachusetts that, due to budget constraints, all Health Departments …
