Bombing Victim Lu Lingzi Remembered Back Home

The Chinese national was studying statistics at Boston University. She was killed in Monday's bombing at the Boston Marathon.

A Chinese newspaper has identified the third Boston Marathon bombing victim as Lu Lingzi, a Boston University graduate student, according to the Associated Press. Lu, from Shenyang, China, was studying statistics in Boston. A second Chinese national and BU student, Zhou Danling, was also injured in the blasts. She is listed in stable condition in a Boston hospital, according to Chinese officials. Lu's death has led to an outpouring from friends, family and concerned neighbors in China. Lu's Sina Weibo page already has 20,000 comments from shocked and upset friends (Sina Weibo is a Chinese social media service that combines Twitter- and Facebook-like features).  A former neighbor in China was elegiac when talking about Lu on his Sina Weibo …

Rex Trailer Dies at 84; Share Your Boomtown Memories, Photos

Boston TV icon hosted a children's show in the 1950s-1970s. Do you have any photos from back in the day?

Rex Trailer, a Boston TV icon who had been recovering from pneumonia recently, has died. Trailer hosted “Boomtown,” a children’s show with a Western theme on WBZ-TV from 1956-1974.  How did a Western cowboy make his mark in Boston? According to Wikipedia, his corporate overlords gave him a choice of Cleveland or Boston. But he's remembered for more than his cowboy get-up.The Boston Globe wrote in an editorial last year: Kids adored Trailer’s rodeo tricks. But mostly they adored him for his consistent kindness and competence. He also inspired a local cowpunk band to name itself "Tex Railer's Doomtown." Trailer was 84. OBITUARY: Leonard Marshall

Leonard Marshall, a retired Peabody firefighter, died Dec. 8 after a long illness. He was 87.

[The following obituary is courtesy of Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home.] Leonard Marshall, 87, a retired Peabody firefighter, died Saturday evening at the Peabody Glenn Nursing Center after a long illness. He was the loving husband of 64 years to Francelina (Cunha)Marshall. Lenny was born in Peabody on Jan. 28, 1925, the son of the late Jesse and Margaret (Silveria) Marshall and was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1942. He was a distinguished veteran, entering  the U.S. Army in 1943, serving with the  the 82nd  Airborne Division. He was in the Invasion of Normandy, France as a glider, was the recipient of the Purple Heart and later received the French Legion Medal of Honor from the government of France. State Rep. Joyce Spiliotis, a Peabody native and former city councilor, died Nov. 29. She was 65. Funeral service is Dec. 3 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

"Dick" Jarvis, died Thursday morning at Salem Hospital following a brief illness surrounded by her family. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Charles "Chuck" and Virginia (Cox) Burns. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School. She continued her education at Suffolk University. Visiting hours and services for Joyce Spiliotis, who died Thursday, will be held over the next few days.

Initial funeral arrangements for Joyce Spiliotis have been announced as follows: Spiliotis, a Peabody Democrat serving as the 12 Essex District representative, died Nov. 29 at home with her family by her side. She was 65.

OBITUARY: John C. Keilty

World War II vet and former Peabody postman dies at 90.

[The following obituary is courtesy of Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home.] John C. Keilty, 90, beloved husband of the late Theresa (MacLellan) Keilty, died in his sleep Friday morning at Putnam Farm in Danvers. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Patrick and Bridget (Killeen) Keilty. He was a 1939 graduate of Peabody High School, then studied ornamental horticulture at Essex Agricultural High School 1940-1941, where he captained the cross country team and was a miler for the winter track team. He served in Europe with the U.S. Army’s 66th Division as a Staff Sergeant during World War II, and was an Army Ranger. OBITUARY: Ellen (Carlin) Endslow

Peabody native, longtime teacher and musical director Ellen Endslow died Sept. 10 after a brief illness. She was 64.

Born on Feb. 23, 1948 in Salem, and raised in Peabody, Mrs. Endslow was the eldest daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Eagan) Carlin of Peabody. Longtime Peabody teacher and city native Papi, who retired this past June, died Tuesday following a brief illness. She was 69.

OBITUARY: Sgt. David Wayne Armstrong

Retired Georgetown Police Sgt. and Peabody native David Armstrong died Tuesday in a car accident on Route 128. He was 54.

[The following obituary is courtesy of Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home.] David Wayne Armstrong, 54, of Peabody, a recent retired sergeant with the Georgetown Police Department, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012 as a result of taking an ill turn while driving on Route 128 and 95 in Peabody. He was born in Lynn on Dec. 21, 1957, the son of the late George F. and Dorothy (Rhoades) Armstrong and was raised in Peabody, graduating from the Peabody Vocational High School in 1975 where he was the class president.
