Alzira (Lopes) Bettencourt of Peabody died May 10 at her home with her family at her side. She was 83. One of her 21 grandchildren is Mayor Ted Bettencourt.

Alzira (Lopes) Bettencourt, 83, of Peabody, wife of the late Manuel J. Bettencourt with whom she shared 58 years of marriage, died at her home with her family at her side on Thursday, May 10, 2012. Mrs. Bettencourt was born in Peabody on Jan. 3, 1929, daughter of the late Alberto and Alzira (Andrade) Lopes. At age two, following her mother’s death her family moved to Gauveia, Portugal and returned to Peabody 12 years later. She finished her studies in Peabody, residing in the city for the rest of her life. Mrs. Bettencourt was a loving mother who devoted her life to creating a home for her family. John James Brennan, born Sept. 17, 1926 in Peabody, son of the late James and Dorothy (Noone) Brennan of Ireland, went to the golf course in heaven on Thursday, May 10 after a brief illness in Jensen Beach, Fla. John had been a lifelong resident of Peabody until recently relocating to Ocean Breeze Park, Fla., which he called “Paradise.” He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Pauline (Murphy) Brennan, whom he married in 1952 in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. John was a 1939 graduate of St. John’s Grammar School, a 1943 graduate of Peabody High School, and was a student at Wentworth Institute and Northeastern University. Myde C. (Spencer) Stocker died on Monday after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was 59. A memorial service will be held Friday, followed by a funeral on Saturday.

[The following was submitted by Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home.] Myde C. (Spencer) Stocker, 59, of Peabody, devoted wife of Richard W. Stocker, died with her family at her side at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston on March 5, 2012 after a lengthy and courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. Myde was born in Panama City, Fla. on Dec. 28, 1952, the daughter of Irvin Spencer and the late Ruth (Hart) Walters. She was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1970. She pursued her education and received an associates degree in secretarial science in 1972 from Fisher College. Stocker, after battling cancer for 13 years and inspiring many others to continue the fight for a cure, died on March 5. She was 59. She was chosen as the Huffington Post's Greatest Person of the Day on Thursday.

Peabody native George Katsoulas owned and operated Honey Bee Restaurant on Main Street for 35 years until retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Val's and the Peabody Lions Club. He died Feb. 10 after a lengthy illness. He was 86.

Peabody native Jane Wilson was a longtime fifth-grade teacher at the Kiley School and former principal at Higgins Middle School. She was 67.
Peabody native Jane Wilson, a longtime Tanner City educator, died last Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She was 67. Wilson, who spent many years teaching fifth-grade at the Kiley School and was a former housemaster and principal at Higgins Middle School, succumbed to a long battle with cancer. She retired from teaching in 2003. A funeral was held on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home on Lynn Street, followed by a Mass at St. Richard's Church in Danvers. Rev. Dr. Peter Wilfred Stine, 72, of Brooksby Village, Peabody, died unexpectedly on Aug. 5 at Mass. General Hospital following a short illness. Stine, formerly of Danvers, was a retired pastor of the First Baptist Church of Danvers and a retired Chair of the English Department at Gordon College. He spent time in his retirement teaching English literature courses to fellow Brooksby Village residents. Stine was the beloved husband of the late Betsy (Carnall) Stine. He was born in Saginaw, Mich., the son of the late Earl J. Sr. and Ione G. (Best) Stine. Fr. Frank Toste, a long-time Peabody teacher and founder of the high school’s drama department in 1970, died July 6, following a brief illness. He was 85.
Rev. Frank Toste, C.S.C., 85, died at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford on Wednesday, July 6, following a brief illness. Father Toste was a former teacher at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, instructing students in all aspects of theater, film and television. He was the founder and head of the Drama/Communication Arts Department when he arrived in Peabody in 1970. That same year he also founded the student-led club Stage One, which he directed until his departure from Peabody in 1990. Fr. Toste was born on March 20, 1926 in Providence, R.I., the son of Anthony and Mary (Pental) Toste. He entered the U.S. Navy in March of 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946 after service in the U.S., Europe and Africa. He received a B.A. from …

Joncarlos Perez, 18, of Peabody and a recent graduate of PVMHS, died last Saturday in a car accident in the Dominican Republic. A memorial service is being held June 18 at Calvary Christian Church in Lynnfield at 3 p.m.

Stephanie M. Moulton, 25, died on Thursday January 20, 2011 in Lynn. Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of Robert Moulton of Ipswich and Kim Flynn of Peabody. She grew up in Beverly, and graduated from Beverly High School. She later graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in social work. Ms. Moulton was working as a Senior Counselor with the Suffolk County Mental Health Services, as a manager in their residential program. She was continuing her studies to develop her skills, as she wanted to continually give of herself to others. Stephanie had many wonderful qualities she was able to share in her short life.
