Your Guide: Stop Downtown Saturday for a Sidewalk Bazaar

The first annual Peabody Downtown Sidewalk Bazaar is Aug. 24.

One of the advantages of the wider, ADA compliant sidewalks along Main Street is that it's much easier for shops to set up a table outside on the sidewalk, or a whole lot of them at once for a bazaar, which has become common in other North Shore communities as a way to bring people downtown.

With that in mind, the Peabody Downtown Association is putting on its first big event on Saturday to showcase the local shops downtown and celebrate, as it were, the completion of the Main Street Corridor project.

From 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., there will be a sidewalk bazaar along Main Street. Local vendors and Main Street shops will offer discounts and giveaways to shoppers, there will be food, entertainment and face-painting, special discounts for seniors, raffles and a special appearance by former New England Patriots quarterback Steve Grogan.

The entertainment will be in the courtyard of the Main Branch Library and the Friends of the Peabody Institute will also be holding a book sale from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The Peabody Downtown Association was formed earlier this year by several downtown businesspeople. You can email peabodydowntownassociation@gmail.com or call Joan Morrissey at 978-531-3848 for more information.
