Classic Car, Craft Fair Coming to Peabody Square

Submitted by the  Peabody Downtown Association:

Roll into summer with the Peabody Downtown Association and the Essex County Cruisers as they shut down Main Street in Peabody Square from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 1 to host the First Annual Peabody Square Classic Car Show and Craft Fair featuring more than 100 vintage automobiles and more than 50 crafters and food vendors.

Peabody Square from Foster Street to Washington Street will be closed to cars but open to foot traffic for anyone interested in getting an up close look at some of the area's best preserved and most lovingly restored and maintained antique and vintage autos. Entrance to the show is free and you can cast a vote for your favorite to help decide which of the vintage vehicles will receive the “People’s Choice” award.

"We are so excited to kick off summer with an event like this that is such a perfect way to showcase our community and our downtown,” said Joan Morrissey, President of the Peabody Downtown Association. “For generations gone by, downtowns and Main Streets were where the community came together for business and to socialize. With Cities and downtowns making a comeback, it's great to co-sponsor an event like this that shows the potential of Peabody's downtown," she added.

While Main Street will be lined with classic cars from decades gone by, the sidewalks will be bustling with a wide range of regional crafters offering for sale unique, quality hand-made items from American Doll clothes to interactive items for kids to sports collectibles. New England Revolution soccer Star Diego Fagundez will be on hand courtesy of Andy Bedard Sports to meet fans and sign autographs from noon until 2 p.m.

“We do shows all over and a downtown like Peabody is really a perfect setting,” said Ron Kharibian, Coordinator for the Essex County Cruisers car club. “Main Street and Peabody Square still have that classic downtown feel, making it just a great backdrop for these classic cars,” he explained.

So head for Main Street on Peabody Square, rain or shine, Sunday June 1 and get summer rolling in style at the First Annual Peabody Square Classic Car Show and Craft Fair sponsored by H.D. Chasen Co. Inc. Additional donations have been made by Luso-American Credit Union.
